Exterior work is progressing on 42-52 Franklin Street, an eight-story commercial building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Developed by 42-52 Franklin St. Corp is the owner and Brooklyn Construction Group is the general contractor for the project, which is located on a 7,785-square-foot plot by the three-way intersection of Franklin, Calyer, and Banker Streets.

Recent photos show all of the windows and terrace railings in place across the various angled levels of the building’s stepped massing. The main western elevation facing Franklin Street is still awaiting installation of its façade paneling, with the walls currently covered in blue waterproof boards.

The building replaces a 1930s low-rise structure that was demolished in 2014. A small portion of the southwestern corner of the building was saved and has been integrated into the new design.

Construction has been slow on the new project. The steel-framed superstructure began to rise in 2015, but a series of delays hampered progress until 2020, when work finally topped out. The exterior began to take shape in 2021 and has since moved along ploddingly. It’s possible that the final façade paneling could be installed by the end of 2023.

The site is located between is the Greenpoint Avenue and Nassau Avenue subway stations, both serviced by the G train.

A revised completion date has not been announced, though YIMBY predicts 42-52 Franklin Street to finally conclude construction sometime later this year.

  1. We all see it…we all see it…

  2. You can tell that this building has been stalled for a while. It’s not looking the best. But, it is a nice building architecturally.

  3. Give it time and the new building addition will be covered with graffiti to match the old building, seamlessly!
