Finishing touches are wrapping up on 109 East 79th Street, a 20-story residential building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Steven Harris Architects and developed by Legion Investment Group, the 210-foot-tall structure yields 145,000 square feet and 31 condominium units ranging from two-bedroom layouts to five-bedroom full-floor penthouses, with the largest spanning over 6,000 square feet with a private rooftop terrace. Corcoran Sunshine Marketing Group’s Cathy Franklin Team is leading sales and marketing for the property, which is located on the north side of East 79th Street between Lexington and Park Avenues.

All exterior work has concluded since our last update in July 2022, the sidewalk scaffolding has been dismantled, and the building has opened for occupancy. Some fencing and barriers remain around the entrance as the landscaping designed by Rees Roberts + Partners finishes up. A temporary pathway diverts pedestrians around the remade sidewalks that are now lined with parallel rows of boxwoods and several tall trees.

The main entrance is flanked by two trees that are trimmed into rectangular volumes. At the time of our visit, the underside of the entrance canopy was in the process of receiving its final bronze-hued panels. Above the doorways, the translucent stone paneling features an abstract relief pattern that matches the motifs adorning some of the rectangular stone spandrels across the main façade.

Work has also concluded on the upper-level balconies, which feature corner columns and decorative dark metal railings. Belden Try-State Building Materials supplied the brickwork, while Skyline Windows supplied the custom windows.

The fenestration is composed of a mix of recessed bay windows and narrower conventional windows.

Amenities at 109 East 79th Street include a library overlooking a private outdoor garden, a resident’s lounge, a spa and sauna with multiple treatment rooms, a game room, a golf simulator, and a double-height fitness center. There is also a squash court with a retractable basketball hoop, and a movement studio capable of hosting private classes.

YIMBY expects the final exterior touches to finish up before the end of spring.

The beautiful building is just about a new residential, from your photos do the job of another present. I looked up at the structure above that higher than street level, so sudden and unexpected a time is there on a mix of recessed bay windows: Thanks to Michael Young.

Almost as nice as the historic townhomes it replaced.

  11. This building looks like it could have been built 75-100 years ago. That is a complement.

  12. Steven Harris Architects, we need more of you buildings in New York and less Gene Kaufman please!!

  13. What a quietly, graceful building! I agree with Bubba10 -it has a really established quality. Thank you again for the beautiful photography, Mr. Young.

    Average condo size of 4,677sf.

I guess the silver lining is that it replaced a half dozen townhomes, so at least it is a net positive units.

  15. I wanted to see how the building fit into the neighborhood.

So I entered 109 East 79th Street into Google Street view.

Amazing how Google’s cameras let you see to the top of the buildings.

This new buildings fits in perfectly. I forgot how many tall, tall buildings there were on 79th Street even though I went to high school on 84th and Madison and left the city after high school.

Walking down the streeet on Google was fun.

  16. They are very nice
