Excavation Underway for 1 Putnam Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn

1 Putnam Ave me. Design by RSLN Architecture

Construction is underway at 1 Putnam Avenue, the site of an eight-story mixed-use building in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Designed by RSLN Architecture and developed by Abeco Organization, the 84-foot-tall structure will span 40,364 square feet and yield 41 rental units with an average scope of 804 square feet, as well as 7,370 square feet of commercial space, a cellar level, and one enclosed parking space. Fenimore Plaza LLC is listed as the owner and Abeco Construction LLC is the general contractor for the project, which is located to the north of Putnam Triangle between Grand Avenue to the east and Cambridge Place to the west.

Recent photographs show excavators and piling machines tending to the site, which was formerly occupied by a one-story laundromat. Work should progress below grade for the next several months before the superstructure becomes visible sometime in early 2024.

The rendering in the main photo depicts a conventional massing clad in a mix of white and dark gray brick, with some red brick accents spanning between the windows at the center of the structure. The distribution of the brick tones is symmetrical, with white masonry framing the first two stories and the corners of the building from floors four through seven. A setback at the eighth level is shown topped with a terrace, and the structure culminates in a stepped bulkhead on the western end of the roof.

The nearest subway from the property is the C train at the Clinton-Washington Avenues station at the intersection of Fulton and Clinton Streets.

1 Putnam Avenue’s anticipated completion date is slated for July 2024, as noted on site.

  1. The site was not formerly occupied by an auto shop. It was a 24-hour laundromat with surface parking that had been there for probably at least 8-10 years (and before that it was a regular hole-in-the-wall laundromat). Anyway, this is another nice addition to the continuing development of this stretch of Fulton all the way out to Utica Ave and beyond.

  2. what happens to the beautiful public plaza with benches and trees that had been set up on the sidewalk ?
