Excavation is moving along on 24-01 Queens Plaza North, the site of a 19-story residential building in Long Island City, Queens. Designed by ODA New York and developed by New Empire Corporation, the 115,000-square-foot structure will yield more than 100 condominium units in studio to two-bedroom layouts, as well as a suite of amenities and commercial space. The property is alternately addressed as 41-45 24th Street and located on an 8,967-square-foot lot at the corner of 24th Street and Queens Plaza North.

Crews have unearthed the site below street level since our last update in October, when early piling work was just getting started. Recent photographs show several excavators, piling machines, and other equipment working on the rectangular parcel behind the sidewalk fencing. The new reinforced concrete foundations should likely begin to take shape later this spring and into summer.

The main rendering for 24-01 Queens Plaza North depicts a rounded structural massing featuring a distinctive array of blocks arranged in a staggered pattern in two-story increments. The voids between the volumes are home to balconies lined with metal railings. There will also be expansive floor to-ceiling windows with rounded corners and dark mullions, while a barrel-vaulted canopy topped with greenery will hang over the main entrance to the building along 24th Street.

Here we see the previous iteration for the project, which had a much darker façade, a busier design, and a more dense and bulkier appearance.

New Empire Corporation acquired the corner site for $26 million and demolished the low-rise commercial property occupying it. Residential amenities will include a penthouse resident lounge, communal outdoor spaces, on-site parking, and a fitness center. The property is a short walk from the elevated Queensboro Plaza subway station, which is served by the 7, N, and W trains.

24-01 Queens Plaza North’s anticipated completion date is slated for the fall of 2025, as noted on site.

Nice to see LIC getting a couple of unusual designs. This one could be good, but I need to see the finished product.

  2. Nice idea but man the execution is either gonna really slap or look totally ridiculous lol
