Kushner has broken ground on Monmouth Square, a mixed-use redevelopment project in Eatontown, New Jersey. Designed in collaboration between Minno + Wasko, retail architects Benoy and the Dietz Partnership, and interior designers Stonehill Taylor, the $500 million project will transform the existing Monmouth Mall into a modern, open-air town center.
The 900,000-square-foot project will feature retail and restaurant spaces including a Whole Foods Market, an expansive public green space, pedestrian pathways, 1,000 residential units, and medical office space. Residents of Monmouth Square will enjoy access to amenities such as a 40,000-square-foot clubhouse with fitness centers, coworking spaces, and a pet spa.
Kushner aims to “de-mall” the former Monmouth Mall, once one of the nation’s largest malls. The project will demolish approximately 600,000 square feet of retail space, reducing the retail footprint by 40 percent.
The former Lord & Taylor and JCPenney stores will be demolished in the project’s reduction of retail space, while AMC movie theater, Macy’s, and Boscov’s will remain open during construction. Whole Foods Market will move into the space currently occupied by Barnes & Noble, which will be relocated to a new retail building.
