185 Chrystie Street Tops Out on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Construction has topped out on 185 Chrystie Street, a 17-story residential building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by GF55 Partners and developed by Omnia Group and Naveh Shuster, the 175-foot-tall structure will span 75,000 square feet and yield 57 units and ground-floor retail space. The property is located between Stanton and Rivington Streets, directly across from Sara D. Roosevelt Park.

The entire reinforced concrete superstructure was built since our last update in July 2023, when demolition had recently finished at the site and excavation had yet to begin. Recent photos show the look of the massing, which features a cantilever on its northern side and multiple setbacks and beveled corners on the upper levels. The core is positioned along the southern lot line wall. Crews are currently installing metal frame studs and insulation boards across the edges of the floor plates in preparation for the final cladding.

Exterior renderings show 185 Chrystie Street clad in a light-colored stone envelope with a tight grid of floor-to-ceiling windows. The setbacks on the upper levels are depicted with landscaped outdoor terraces, and a roof deck caps the structure alongside a bulkhead with arched windows that echo the motif used at the entrance. A single wide balcony is located near the top of the rear western profile.

The nearest subways from the site are the J and Z trains at the Bowery station to the south along Delancey Street, and the F train at the 2nd Avenue station to the north along Houston Street.

185 Chrystie Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for summer 2025, as noted on site.

  1. That space between the cantilever and the adjoining brick building looks like it could rent for at least $4k a month?!

There will be a “lottery” for some lucky winner! 🤣😂

I’m really hoping the cantilever money for the adjacent old building includes a facade restoration.

  3. Hate cantilevers but here’s an example of where simply pushing back the overhang 20 feet from the front elevation would have been the difference between totally bad and totally okay.

It looks much better with no scaffolding in sight, and how could I ignore that gap? Thanks to Michael Young.

  4. Good details, terrible massing

  5. would be nice if this meant cleaning the junkies out of the park!

  6. Nice to see GF55 Architects doing a project with a historical aesthetic. And the cantilever is much preferable to a blank wall, which the building will be getting on the opposite side.
