Permits have been filed for a five-story fire station at 86-53 Grand Avenue in Elmhurst, Queens. Located between Van Loon Street and Queens Boulevard, the lot is near the Grand Avenue-Newtown subway station, served by the E, F, M, and R trains. Irma Fontaine of the New York City Fire Department is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed 69-foot-tall development will yield 18,128 square feet designated for community facility space, and will house FDNY Engine 287/Ladder 136/Battalion 46 when complete. The steel-based structure will also have a cellar but no accessory parking.
Ronnette Riley Architect is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits were filed this summer for the existing damaged fire station. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

This dignified building from 1936 has serious structural cracks and must be replaced. The new building will, of course, be modern in style.
Too bad this classic old fire house has to bite the dust. Hopefully the new station will be fire. Lol.
Firehouse was from 1913-1914. It is now completely gone, sooner the better the new facility will be constructed
