Excavation is moving along at 555 West 45th Street, the site of a seven-story residential building in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. Designed by S. Wieder Architect and developed by Cheskel Schwimmer of Chess Builders LLC, the same team behind the nearby 622 Eleventh Avenue, the 53,307-square-foot structure will yield 56 units and collection of amenities in the cellar level. The property is located on an interior lot between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues.
Recent photographs show the partially excavated state of the site behind sidewalk fencing, with the ongoing work at 622 Eleventh Avenue visible in the background. Temporary wooden walls have been assembled to hold back unearthed sections around the southern edge of the property, indicating the imminent start of foundation work. YIMBY expects below-grade work to progress throughout the winter, followed by the rise of the new superstructure in the spring.

The main rendering depicts a similar design to the project’s sister development at 622 Eleventh Avenue, particularly in its use of contrasting light and dark paneling, as well as its fenestration of windows with chamfered upper corners on either end of the top story, down the center column, and along the ground floor. The entrance sits within a two-story glass wall at the center of the main elevation, and the flat parapet is lined with glass and metal railings, suggesting the presence of a roof deck.
Residential amenities at 555 West 45th Street will include bicycle parking and recreation spaces. The nearest subways from the development are the A, C, and E trains at the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal station to the east.
Chess Builders LLC purchased the property from Extell Development for $33.2 million.
555 West 45th Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for winter 2026, as noted on site.
