Excavation is moving along at 88 East 2nd Street, the site of a seven-story mixed-use building in Manhattan’s East Village. Designed by Gerald Caliendo Architects and developed by Manny Ashourzadeh of Romah Management Corporation, the 73-foot-tall structure will span 19,278 square feet and yield 22 rental units with an average scope of 740 square feet, as well as 2,994 square feet of commercial space and a cellar level. The property is located at the corner of East 2nd Street and First Avenue.
Recent photographs show most of the corner site excavated below street level behind sidewalk fencing. Some sections of the former occupants’ brick foundation walls are visible along the perimeter along with some additional scattered rubble. YIMBY expects below-grade work to progress throughout the remainder of the year, followed by the emergence of the new superstructure in the early months of 2025.

The site was formerly occupied by two low-rise commercial structures that were demolished earlier this year.

No renderings nor a potential list of residential amenities has been revealed to date. The development is located a short walk away from the F train at the 2nd Avenue station along Houston Street.
An anticipated completion date for 88 East 2nd Street has also yet to be disclosed.
