Exterior work is moving along on 526 Baltic Street, an 11-story residential building in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Designed by NY Building Associates for Baltic Height LLC, the 148-foot-tall structure will span 74,629 square feet and yield 96 rental units with an average scope of 663 square feet, as well as 10,955 square feet of commercial space, a cellar level, and a 37-foot-long rear yard. The property is located on an interior lot between Nevins Street and Third Avenue.
Recent photographs show the reinforced concrete superstructure built to its pinnacle and shrouded in scaffolding and construction netting. Crews are currently in the process of building out the exterior with metal studs and insulation boards, and many of the windows are already installed across the broad northern and southern elevations. A boom was seen delivering the final pours of concrete to the roof, which is still laden with wooden formwork and orange barriers. The building was constructed atop an existing one-story commercial building that will serve as the podium.
The grid of windows and protruding floor plates for the balconies are more visible on the exposed southern face, where the hoist is positioned. Installation of the brick façade has yet to begin.
The following Google Street View image shows the conditions of the one-story building before work began.
The main rendering was posted to the construction board and shows the structure’s multifaceted massing and beige brick envelope surrounding a grid of recessed floor-to-ceiling windows. The upper levels feature several steps and setbacks, creating terrace spaces for select units. A black metal canopy will hang over the front entrance alongside a set of raised garden planters, which are flanked by double-height commercial space.
Jacob Katz purchased the property last year for $13.9 million from Lynn Pedowitz of Pedowitz Machinery Movers in a deal brokered by Venture Capital Properties.
The nearest subways from the development are the B, D, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station, which also provides access to the Long Island Rail Road.
526 Baltic Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for summer 2025, as noted on site.

Close to the level of the hanging black metal roof, and commercial areas should be open. Because they have to take advantage of it: Thanks to Michael Young.
The rendering’s shows 12-stories-but what’s a story between friends-Another look-a like build. All that matters in the end is the Rent.
I understand the importance of ‘background’ buildings, but an occasional ‘star or two’ here would be nice..
