Foundation Underway at 611 Eleventh Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Foundations are beginning to take shape at 622 Eleventh Avenue, the site of a 14-story residential building in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. Designed by S. Wieder Architect and developed by Cheskel Schwimmer of Chess Builders, the 119-foot-tall structure will span 127,613 square feet and yield 188 rental units with an average scope of 677 square feet, as well as 173 square feet of commercial space. The property is bound by West 46th Street to the north and Eleventh Avenue to the west, with frontage on both streets.

A substantial amount of below-grade work has occurred since our last update in mid October, when excavation had just begun. The majority of the plot is now unearthed and crews have already formed several portions of the new reinforced concrete foundation walls. Steel rebar can be seen protruding at the locations of subsequent substructure elements. YIMBY also spotted an active concrete pour and predicts the building will reach street level this spring.

The main rendering above depicts the building massing with a distinctive sloped volume on the upper levels of the main western elevation. The façade is composed of a mix of light and dark gray metal paneling, and a mix of traditional floor-to-ceiling windows on the northern and southern ends, wide octagonal windows above the 11th-story setback, and an additional column of horizontally extended windows with chamfered upper corners near the centerline. The ground floor is lined with a row of thick black columns that form a trapezoidal cutout between the windows and dark mullions, and the main entrance sits within a two-story glass wall. A row of planters will sit along the Eleventh Avenue frontage.

A list of residential amenities has yet to be confirmed. The nearest subways from the development are the A, C, and E trains at the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal station to the east.

622 Eleventh Avenue’s anticipated completion date is slated for winter 2026, as noted on site.

  1. Good to see this progress. Lived close to this stretch of 11th Avenue for three years, until recently and it remains rather bleak. So much vacant retail, despite all the residential development (so different from even one black over on 10th). It is good to see the Landmark Tavern holing on!

  2. Nice, but could be a lot taller in that location.

It has some very 1970 vibes.

  4. I stayed with a family friend in the yellow brick tenement in ‘99. It wasn’t very nice back then. I’m glad they are getting around to redeveloping the area.

  5. Wish they could get rid of all the remaining ugly old buildings on that block as well.

  6. Isn’t this the old Manhatten Lumber location.
