Foundations are underway at 22 Skillman Street, the site of an eight-story residential building in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Designed by Daniel Condatore of Mode Architects and developed by Zelig Weiss of Riverside Developers USA, the 70-foot-tall structure will span 115,580 square feet and yield 83 condominium units with an average scope of 1,392 square feet. The development will also include a cellar level and 42 enclosed parking spaces. The through-lot property is located between Skillman Street to the east and Franklin Avenue to the west.

Photographs from mid-April show the sections of the reinforced concrete foundations taking shape across the large property. Perimeter walls have been formed along the southern and eastern edges of the lot, and bundles of rebar protrude from the locations of the forthcoming interior columns. YIMBY expects the superstructure to begin its ascent before the end of spring and potentially top out before the end of the year.

No finalized renderings have been released for the project apart from the following elevation diagram posted to the construction board. The illustration depicts the main eastern profile of 22 Skillman Street with two distinct volumes. The larger portion spans roughly two-thirds of the lot and rises the full eight stories with a lighter façade. The shorter section at the southern end stands just seven stories and is shown with a dark envelope and a sparser fenestration. The structure culminates in a mechanical bulkhead on the northern volume.

The property used to be a surface-level parking lot that occupied the entire site. A list of potential amenities has not been announced. The nearest subway from the development is the G train at the Flushing Avenue station to the east.

22 Skillman Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for summer 2026, as noted on site.

  1. The property shown from Google maps is actually across the street. This lot was an empty parking lot.

    From dreadful, to multi-floor dreadful.

  3. Wrong picture That building is still up and the construction is opposite that flat building

  4. The google maps picture you have showing 22 Skillman is incorrect, that’s a building across the street from 22 Skillman, the 22 Skillman lot of been for years a parking lot, didn’t not have any building for at least 40+ years

Was the rendering of the proposed new building done by a kindergartner!?🤔🤷🙈 I mean, sure, no one is expecting an architectural “masterpiece”, HOWEVER, good designs do not have to be cost prohibitive. At least consider that what you build will in no small way, affect the collective spirit of passers by for generations to come, WHY NOT INSPIRE,& ADD AESTHETIC VALUE,etc,(here’s an idea for the developer, before you actually build what is drawn in that depressing rendering, just give local NYC college architects in school a design “challenge”, and you can probably get a WAY BETTER BLDG for the long-term value of everyone, with little to no more real effort or $, etc), just saying🤷👍🙂

  6. First dig up all the cold cases and then start construction
