Permits have been filed to expand a two-story structure into a four-story residential building at 132-28 Pople Avenue in Flushing, Queens. Located between College Point Boulevard and Saull Street, the lot is closest to the Main Street subway station, served by the 7 train. Mark Lam of 132-28 Condominium LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed 54-foot-tall development will yield 5,474 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have eight residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 684 square feet. The masonry-based structure will also have a cellar, a rooftop terrace, and a 30-foot-long rear yard.
Xiucheng Li of Bayside Engineering is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits won’t be needed as the project calls for a vertical expansion. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

Flushing did not have much of a building boom of 6-story brick apartment buildings as the subway arrived in 1928 followed shortly by the Depression and WWII. Many 19th century wooden houses survived until the end of the war. This structure is from 1945 and likely replaced one of these. An uncle of President Theodore Roosevelt had a country home in the immediate area which was the subject of a humorous book he wrote.
That thing on the left looks like Mogadishu. Flushing could use an influx of good taste. Thw same could be said of much of the city.
