Permits have been filed for an eight-story school building at 4261 Broadway in Fort George, Manhattan. Located between West 181st Street and West 184th Street, the lot is near the 181st Street subway station, served by the A train. Lloyd Goldman of BLDG Management is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed 123-foot-tall development will yield 149,039 square feet designated for community facility space. The building components include an auditorium, cafeteria, and recreation space. The steel-based structure will also have a 30-foot-long rear yard.
Matthew McChesney of KSS Architects LLP is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the lot is vacant. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

I cannot image little ones trudging up 8 floors or older students changing classes in a building that height.
Maybe the school is only the first couple of floors and the community space is above?
My first grade school was 4 stories and I don’t ever remember thinking what a physical burden that was. 181 Street slopes up so the first real classroom floor probably will be the second floor and the top of the building office, faculty and specialized uses.
What a silly comment. No school would have little kids “trudging up 8 floors” and the building is likely to have an elevator. We know nothing about the school beyond the apparent application for a permit to build on the site and a few details.
Please dont be ugly.
Zeta has been hunting for a high school in Upper Manhattan for years. This might well be it.
