One of the last remnants of decades of disinvestment and abandonment in Bed-Stuy is about to be redeveloped. A 16-unit residential building is coming to the empty lot at 401 Gates Avenue, between Bedford and Nostrand Avenues.
Robert Michael of Urban View Development filed new building applications for the six-story project earlier today. Those 16 apartments would be divided across 14,919 square feet of residential space, yielding average units of 932 square feet.
There would be a lobby and mechanicals on the first floor, followed by four units each on the second through fourth floors and two units a piece on the fifth and sixth floors.
The development would also have a roof deck and eight open parking spots—the minimum required to satisfy building code.
Elmhurst-based engineer Woody Chen, of Infocus Design and Planning, applied for the permits.
The 4,358-square-foot lot last changed hands for $200,000 in early 2014. It appears that Urban View is either developing on behalf of the owner, or they bought the property and the sale hasn’t hit public records yet.
