YIMBY recently visited the newly-completed 43-story residential building dubbed Summit, at 222 East 44th Street, in the Midtown neighborhood of Turtle Bay. The tower was designed by Handel Architects and developed by BLDG Management. Leasing and marketing for the 429 residences, which range from studios to three-bedroom units, is being led by Douglas Elliman Development Marketing. Andres Escobar, partner at Lemay + Escobar is behind the interiors.
“The most in-demand NYC views are of landmarks old and new, and the rivers. Summit features unparalleled perspectives of the Chrysler Building, United Nations, Empire State Building, and the East River,” said Matthew Villetto, executive vice president of Douglas Elliman Development Marketing. “The unique shape of the building’s footprint, angled façade, and extraordinary ceiling heights maximize the skyline and river views from every vantage point.”

Residents and visitors to the building walk past the perimeter landscaping and through the revolving doors, and are immediately greeted by a main lobby with high ceilings and clean finishes. A mailroom is located next to the elevators and sits adjacent to an outdoor sculpture titled “The Summit of Manhattan,” which was designed by Australian artist Todd Stuart.

YIMBY toured a model unit on the 33rd floor, designed by Ligne Roset. Like the rest of the units, the residence features floor-to-ceiling windows, Scavolini custom Italian cabinetry, quartz countertops, and Bosch appliances. This unit has a private outdoor terrace next to the kitchen.

The 42nd floor features the Summit Residences, a collection of four unique units with 15-foot-high ceilings, custom Scavolini cabinetry finished with matte glass and marble countertops, appliances by Wolf and Gaggenau including a wine chiller and a wet bar, and a private terrace for a select number of homes. The 42nd floor also features the Sky Lounge, a large communal space for residents that comes with a private dining room, a wet bar, private wine lockers, a long terrace facing northeast with a barbecue grill, and a marble fireplace.

Summit’s amenities include a tech lounge, a children’s playroom, conference rooms, a gaming lounge with billiards and foosball tables, a golf simulator, a theater, and an outdoor terrace with a sundeck, outdoor screening, a children’s playground, fireplace, and barbecue station.

Fitness amenities, called the Arena, include a full indoor basketball court, a squash court, fitness center, personal training rooms, an 18-meter heated indoor lap pool, a spa and sauna, and locker rooms.

Each resident will also have 24-hour concierge service from LIVunLtd, with on-site valet parking and on-demand car rental service.

I think this is a rather handsome building. Of course the views of the General Electric Building, the Chrysler, and the Waldorf-Astoria from this tower are fabulous.
