Construction has surpassed the podium levels at 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral, one of the largest buildings under construction in New York City. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 65-story 1,031-foot-tall skyscraper sits at the northernmost end of the first phase of Hudson Yards. Turner Construction Company is the construction manager and Banker Steel is in charge of fabricating the nearly $3.7 billion ground-up supertall.
New photos show workers forming the first several floors above the podium. It is only a matter of time until the signature stepped terraces begin to take shape around all four sides of the structure.
The steel superstructure has climbed several stories since our last update in late June. The building’s massive floor plates provide an early impression of the shear scale of the tower, which, along with the adjacent 50 Hudson Yards commercial supertall will transform the Midtown skyline and be clearly visible from New Jersey. Other office and hotel projects are set to be constructed in the vicinity and will further add to the growing density of the neighborhood.
Noteworthy at the moment is the presence of a number of slanted steel columns protruding from parts of The Spiral’s perimeter walls. It remains to be seen how these components factor into the architectural design.
Completion of The Spiral is likely going to happen around 2022.

Pardon me for using your space:
I can’t wait to see how the slanted beams play out in the architecture of this building.
(Thanks to Michael Young)
Question – How rare is it (on a global scale) to see 3 Supertall Skyscrapers in a row, on consecutive blocks? And all 3 are technically under construction simultaneously give 30 HY isn’t 100% complete. Definitely a first in NYC and the USA, my guess is this is extremely rare… Am I right?
Last time it happened was at WTC
Reminds me a little bit of the XYZ buildings over on 6th Ave.
Possibly the slanted steel columns could be the start of the ‘spiral’ staircase? An exciting project, documented, again in such superb detail, by Michael Young!
Another New York City super tall on it’s way! So great!
