Checking in on SOMA Architects’ 45 Park Place in Tribeca

Among the tallest new construction projects in Lower Manhattan is 45 Park Place, a 667-foot-tall residential building in Tribeca. Designed by SOMA Architects with Ismael Leyva Architects as the executive and residential architect, progress was swift on the reinforced concrete structure throughout much of 2019, but work halted toward the end of the year and has yet to resume. The 43-story building is being developed by Sharif el-Gamal of Soho Properties with Piero Lissoni as the interior designer.

Recent photos show the state of work on the edifice, which has not changed much since our December update. The glass curtain wall is around two-thirds of the way up to the stepped pinnacle, with about 13 floors left to be enclosed before reaching the blank perimeter walls of the mechanical section.

45 Park Place is situated between Church Street and West Broadway at the center of a rectangular parcel, and the property is bordered by three relatively low-rise buildings. There are a few minor cantilevering portions that protrude to the west on the southern elevation of the tower. They begin above the heights of the adjacent structures and give the skyscraper its distinctive appearance. Several thin mullions run up the glass envelope and will extend to the very top.

At this point it is unclear when activity at 45 Park Place will resume or when the revised completion date would be.
