Construction still appears stalled at 45 Park Place, a 667-foot-tall residential skyscraper in Tribeca. Designed by SOMA Architects with Ismael Leyva Architects as the executive and residential architect, the 43-story building has sat dormant since the end of 2019. The project, which is being developed by Sharif el-Gamal of Soho Properties with Piero Lissoni as the interior designer, is located between Church Street and West Broadway and sits just to the north of the border with the Financial District.
Recent photos show the current state of 45 Park Place. The glass curtain, which features a mix of clear and opaque panels, has only risen about two thirds of the way up the slim reinforced concrete superstructure. The construction crane remains in place and is still perched above the stepped crown, whose voids are partially filled by cinder blocks. The water towers and external mechanical equipment will most likely be housed in this portion of the building and will be enclosed with semi-transparent glass, as depicted in the main rendering.

The below photo reveals the greenish tint of the envelope, as well as the lines of opaque paneling that run the height of the structure and which parts future residents will be able to see through. The upper levels that sit below the crown and mechanical spaces can be seen with slightly higher ceiling spans.

The multiple cantilevers at different levels on the western elevation give the structure a distinctive look.

It is still unclear when construction will resume or when work will finish on 45 Park Place.

So sad. I was kind of looking forward to 45 Park Place, but it’s not just standing out in the NYC skyline as an unfinished eyesore.
Actually, I think it’s going to be a not-too-ugly glass box. Cantilevers and varying glass bands certainly help.
