Permits have been filed to expand a three-story structure into a four-story residential building at 1479 Sterling Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Located between Utica Avenue and Rochester Avenue, the lot is three blocks north of the Utica Avenue subway station, serviced by the 2, 3, and 4 trains. Oren Hakim is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed 40-foot-tall development will yield 5,361 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have eight residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 670 square feet. The steel-based structure will also have a basement, penthouse, and a 48-foot-long rear yard.
Wu Chen of Infocus Design and Planning is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the project calls for an expansion. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

While I have no objection to the building, it seems a shame to break up the row.
I have every objection to this building…..it’s a FY to the neighbors, from the materials to the lack of any charm or residential quality….might as well have inserted a can of tuna.
The city needs to crack down on this expansion business before any more uniform blocks are mutilated with gross thoughtless hatchet jobs.
This will be the third horrible botch job on this block. Really pretty shocking there isnt pushback on these. Expansions should come in the form of floors setback from the facade and clad in mayerials easy to ignore. This is vandalism. Look at that rippled metal cladding. This is the architecture of neanderthals.
edit: clad in materials appropriately suited, both structurally and aesthetically.
Agree
Im thinking it will be a full guy job despite the write up.
Nice analysis by NFA:
“This is vandalism. Look at that rippled metal cladding. This is the architecture of neanderthals.”
Can this be allowed?
I would be interesting in renting a two bedroom apartment.
