Excavation is ongoing at the site of 30-78 29th Street, a forthcoming seven-story residential building located in Astoria, Queens. Designed by James Cleary Architecture with Desmond Neill of Silverline Construction Management listed as the owner of the development, the future 70-foot-tall structure will yield a total of 18,611 square feet designated for residential space split among 27 rental units averaging 689 square feet each, a cellar level, a 36-foot-long rear yard, and 14 open parking spaces. The property is located on an interior lot and is near the intersection of 29th Street and 30th Drive.

Demolition work concluded in the first half of this year and recent photographs show wooden sidewalk fencing blocking off the site and ongoing excavation work happening across the parcel. This should continue for the next few months, followed by the start of foundation work before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, YIMBY spotted a new exterior rendering for the residential project, showcasing a largely-light-colored facade with a grid of oversized floor-to-ceiling windows, a dark metal framework around the two-story high lobby in the center of the structure, and an adjacent parking garage on the southern end of the first level. Metal spandrels are also visible between some of the windows, grouped in two-story increments. There is also a setback on the southern side of the seventh level, while the northern lot line wall is shown to be a flat and blank surface.

The nearest subway station from the property is the elevated 30th Avenue stop to the east over 31st Street, servicing the N and W trains.

30-79 29th Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for winter 2025, as noted on site.
