Facade Work Complete at 159 Boerum Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is complete on The Welz, a 19-story residential building at 159 Boerum Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Aufgang Architects and developed by Slate Property Group in partnership with Avenue Realty Capital and SD Builders and Construction LLC, the structure yields 162 rental units in studio to two-bedroom layouts with 49 units reserved for affordable housing. The property is located on an interior lot between Humboldt Street and Graham Avenue.

The building’s name pays homage to the former Welz & Zerweck High Ground Brewery that stood at the corner of Myrtle and Wyckoff Avenues in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Work finished up on the façade of light brick, black metal paneling, and recessed windows since our last update in August, when scaffolding still covered portions of the tower above the first setback and crews were working to enclose the upper levels from hanging rigs. All construction equipment has been removed from the site, new sidewalks were poured, and plants have been added to the garden beds by the main entrance.

The Welz’s pet-friendly rental apartments are outfitted with stainless steel energy-efficient appliances, quartz countertops, and matte black fixtures. Select homes will come with a private terrace. Amenities include a communal roof deck with outdoor grilling stations and 360-degree views of the New York City skyline, a fitness center, common area Wi-Fi, bike storage, on-site parking, and an on-site resident manager.

The nearest subway from the property is the L train at the Montrose Avenue station.

Despite a few detail quibbles, this is a very good design all around. Very nice.
