Mayor Eric Adams and Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella have announced a joint investment of nearly $30 million in capital funding to support improvements at three public spaces across Staten Island: Bloomingdale Park playground, Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, and the Staten Island Zoo. The funding, allocated through the Fiscal Year 2026 Adopted Budget, will be used to enhance access, safety, and the quality of cultural and recreational facilities throughout the borough.

At Bloomingdale Park, a $5.6 million investment will support the full reconstruction of the playground. Planned improvements include new play structures, a spray play area, updated fencing, security lighting, and utility upgrades, along with additional landscaping. Design for the project is expected to begin in spring 2026 and will incorporate community input. This project builds on previous enhancements at the park, including synthetic turf fields and adult fitness amenities.

The Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden will receive $6.5 million for campus-wide infrastructure upgrades, including modernization of its building management system. Additional funding includes $6 million for the Staten Island Museum’s expansion into a STEAM education center in Building B, and $3.8 million for the Noble Maritime Collection to replace its aging climate control systems. These upgrades aim to enhance both visitor experiences and the preservation of historic assets on the 83-acre site.

Lastly, the Staten Island Zoo will receive $8 million to develop an interactive education center designed around sensory experiences in humans and animals. The project will offer inclusive programming for children and guests with sensory or developmental disabilities and include a redesigned “Learn & Play Zone” within the zoo’s Children’s Center.
