Construction is progressing on Thrive, a three-story residential building at 273 Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank, New Jersey. Designed by CPA Architecture and developed by non-profit Parents With A Plan, the 34,000-square-foot structure will yield 32 one-bedroom rental apartments for adults with autism, with five units dedicated to affordable housing. The project will also include a 923-square-foot office for the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services on the ground floor. The property is located at the corner of Shrewsbury Avenue and Dr. James Parker Boulevard.
The rendering previews a multifaceted massing with protruding and recessed volumes clad in a mix of white metal and wood paneling, and PTAC windows lined with black mullions. The volumes at the center and ends of the building will feature extended frames with downward-pointing spotlights. The ground floor will be enclosed in light- and dark-gray brick and floor-to-ceiling windows, and the entrance will be located at the middle of the Shrewsbury Avenue elevation. A garage door is also depicted toward the northern end of this profile.
The property was formerly occupied by a two-story commercial building, as seen in the below Google Street View image from the same orientation as the rendering. Construction broke ground on the project in August 2025.
Residential amenities will include a shared community engagement space, teaching kitchen, health and wellness space, and a sensory space. The project will also introduce crosswalk safety improvements to the surrounding streetscape.
273 Shrewsbury Avenue’s anticipated completion date is slated for June 2027.
