Here’s another fantastic rendering from Skyscrapercity user sbarn of the New York skyline circa 2030, including a host of new and rumored projects. The evolution of the skyline in the next twenty years will be quite dramatic, even if some of the projects in the rendering don’t leave the drawing boards (and surely, skyscrapers that haven’t yet been conceived will join the urban jungle).
The Empire State Building is extremely prominent as of 2012, but that will all change very shortly with the completion of the Hudson Yards and 432 Park. Furthering the loss of the ESB’s status will be the assortment of supertalls surrounding the Hudson Yards site, as well as 225 West 57th Street.
The new focal point come 2030 will likely be in Midtown East, where city planners hope the proposed rezoning will allow iconic towers to rise. That’s reflected in the rendering, but hopefully it comes to fruition in real life as well. What seems most certain is that the ‘Midtown plateau’ of 600-800 foot buildings will finally be broken.

It’s so good to see some more peaks starting to break the glass ceiling. I’ve really enjoyed all of sbarn’s renderings… with all the latest information, it looks like he might have even UNDERestimated the height of 225 W 57.
