Kaufman’s invasion of Chelsea continues, and his latest work—an 18-story hotel at 125 West 28th Street—is now going vertical. The project will stay small enough to remain mostly unnoticed, but the building’s real significance is its context; both neighboring hotels were also designed by Kaufman. Thus, the ‘Great Wall of Kaufman’ will soon be born, as Kaufmanitis continues to fester and spread throughout the lower reaches of Midtown.
125 West 28th has made an unfortunate amount of progress since the last update. Given its size, completion should occur before the end of 2013.
Further north, work is progressing on the Pei Cobb Freed-designed 7 Bryant Park. Foundations for the 28-story office tower look to be nearing completion, and Bryant Park’s newest neighbor should begin ascending shortly. Developed by Hines and Pacolet Milliken, the project will top 450 feet, making it semi-prominent for those in the immediate vicinity.

The second tower is slated to be located south of the tower currently under construction. To be one block north of the building would require the demolition of multiple parts of Lincoln Center, including the Metropolitcan Opera.
What? Perhaps you commented on the wrong post?
I see the confusion, and the error on the 160 West 62nd Street post was fixed! Thanks for that. 🙂
