Permits have been filed for a 15-story affordable senior housing building at 97-10 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, Queens. Located at the intersection of 97th Avenue and Sutphin Boulevard, the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue-JFK Airport subway station is within walking distance, serviced by the E and J trains. Breaking Ground under the BG Sutphin LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.
Developers and city officials recently joined to celebrate the beginning of occupancy at 1101 and 1089 President Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Developed in partnership by Breaking Ground and BFC Partners, the two-building complex once served as the historic Bedford Union Armory and now comprises 415 income-restricted rental units, a parking garage, and the 500,000-square-foot Major R. Owens Health and Wellness Community Center, a sprawling facility with large recreational spaces and offices for medical access and emotional counseling.
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has selected Asland Capital Partners, Breaking Ground, Douglaston Development, and SLM Architecture to complete a major rehabilitation project at Sack Wern Houses, a seven-building complex in the Soundview section of The Bronx.
Work is complete on 90 Sands Street, a 30-story residential tower in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Designed by Beyer Blinder Belle and developed by Breaking Ground, the project involved the redevelopment of the former Jehovah’s Witness Hotel and yields 491 units with a portion devoted to deeply affordable housing and supportive housing for the formerly homeless, as well as a 28,000-square-foot community facility and commercial space spanning the first and second floors and a public plaza at the corner of Sands and Jay Streets.
Breaking Ground has completed construction on Betances Residence, a 152-unit affordable and supportive housing property at 443 East 142nd Street in Mott Haven, The Bronx. The development is Breaking Ground’s first Passive House-certified building and was completed in partnership with New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).
