Demolition is continuing at 12 West 57th Street in Midtown, the site of a 672-foot-tall skyscraper that comes in at number 21 on our countdown of the tallest projects underway in the city. The 52-story project is designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill (SOM) and is being developed by Sheldon Solow of Solow Management Corp., who filed permits back in 2019. A preliminary rendering was revealed in early May, showing a slender black glass monolith rising behind a white glass and marbled stone podium. The development required the demolition of three low-rise structures spanning from 10 to 20 West 57th Street.
Today, YIMBY has the exclusive scoop for the first renderings of developer Sheldon Solow’s next skyscraper, at 12 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. The 672-foot-tall, 52-story skyscraper will rise directly across 57th Street from the Solow Building at 9 West 57th Street, and is also designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill. Solow Management Corp. filed permits for the development in 2019, and since then demolition has been clearing the buildings on the lot, spanning from 10 to 20 West 57th Street and back to 56th Street, one by one.
Work is continuing on the demolition of 10-20 West 57th Street to make way for a 52-story mixed-use skyscraper designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill. So far one four-story building has been fully razed, and 20 West 57th Street is currently in the midst of coming down. Scaffolding and black netting shroud the northern elevation with the top floors already torn apart and dismantled. Two other structures in the parcel remain and have been vacated. James Patterson of Ancora Engineering is the applicant of record and Solow Realty & Development Group is the developer of the 672-foot-tall, 383,000-square-foot skyscraper, which will contain 80 residential units spread across 202,738 square feet of space.
Demolition on one of several buildings at 10-14 West 57th Street has been completed. The remaining neighboring structures sit empty and will soon come down to make way for a 52-story mixed-use skyscraper designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill. James Patterson of Ancora Engineering is the applicant of record. Sheldon Solow, chairman of Solow Realty & Development Group, is the developer for the site and Anthony Calicchio is listed as the owner behind the applications. The new 672-foot-tall, 383,000-square-foot skyscraper will contain 80 residential units spread across 202,738 square feet of space.
The site of 7 West 57th Street sits directly adjacent to the SOM-designed Solow Building, aka 9 West 57th Street. Construction on the 19-story reinforced concrete structure has now topped-out, and glass panels on the main southern elevation are nearing completion. The 237-foot-tall tower is being designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Sheldon Solow, the chairman of Solow Realty & Development Group. 7 West 57th Street is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenue along Billionaire’s Row. Upper units will clear the roof heights of the surrounding urbanity, and will obtain north-facing views of Central Park.
