New renderings have been released for the upcoming 37-story condominium tower 611 West 56th Street, aka 823 Eleventh Avenue. The first project in the United States for Portuguese architect Alvaro Size, the white limestone-clad structure will rise 440 feet tall and contain 80 units. The rectangular site is located at the corner of West 56th Street and Eleventh Avenue and is being developed by Sumaida + Khurana and LENY.

Financial support has been acquired for the construction of a new Midtown development, putting verticality one step closer to reality. 611 West 56th Street will rise 35 floors above the far end of Midtown’s Billionaire’s Row. Just a block away from West 57th Street, the project is another step in the redevelopment of the long-forlorn area. It will join new buildings like Via at 625 West 57th Street, the rising towers of Waterline Square, and The Max, a nearly complete mega-development on the same block. Sumaida + Khurana and LENY are responsible for the development.
As the 57th Street boom’s western bookend at 606 West 57th Street nears completion, another new tower around the corner is getting ready to break ground. Demolition has yet to begin on the site’s existing occupant, but Curbed featured the first full rendering for the project, which is being designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza. Dubbed 823 Eleventh Avenue, it will rise 35 floors and 440 feet to its rooftop, with 80 condominiums within. Sumaida+Khurana is the site’s developer, having acquired the existing building at 611 West 56th Street for $55 million last year, and completion is expected by 2019.
Construction is now underway on the top floor of the seven-story, seven-unit mixed-use building under development at 152 Elizabeth Street, located on the corner of Kenmare Street in Nolita. The progress can be seen thanks to a photo posted to the YIMBY Forums. The latest building permits indicate the project will measure 26,788 square feet and rise 85 feet to its roof, not including the bulkhead.
Over the past year, the former four-story commercial building at 152 Elizabeth Street, located on the corner of Kenmare Street in Little Italy, has been demolished down to its foundation. A seven-story, seven-unit mixed-use building is now rising from that foundation, currently a single story above street level, Bowery Boogie reports. The latest building permits indicate the new structure will measure 26,788 square feet. The ground floor will host 2,193 square feet of retail space, followed by two units per floor on the second and third floors, full-floor units on the fourth and fifth-floors, and a penthouse on the sixth and seventh floors. The penthouse will feature two roof decks. The apartments, condominiums, will range from one- to four-bedrooms, averaging 3,514 square feet apiece. There will also be a seven-car automated parking garage in the cellar. Osaka, Japan-based Tadao Ando Architects & Associates is the design architect and Greenwich Village-based Gabellini Sheppard Associates is the executive architect. Sumaida + Khurana is the developer. Completion can probably be expected in 2017.
