A quick look at what The Avenir will bring to Manhattan’s West Side.
Components of the mixed-use complex include a 1,000-room Hyatt hotel, casino, entertainment, multiple restaurants, a public art gallery, and cultural programming. The development team is seeking approval from the Community Advisory Committee by September 30, 2025.

Silverstein, founder and chairman of Silverstein Properties. “These include a housing crisis, public safety challenges, budget shortfalls, and a commercial real estate market in transition. We need to work with State and local leaders to do everything we can to make New York the best place to live, work, and visit. We’ve done it before, and I am confident we can do it again. I’ve always said you should never bet against New York; this City and State will come back bigger and better than ever before.”
The Avenir is ready to deliver more than 9,000 well-paying union jobs, in a mix between construction and permanent roles in hospitality, culinary, and operations. The long-dead corner of of 11th Avenue and 41st Street is transit-adjacent and shovel ready.

The Avenir team will be renting a lounge room next door to the meeting, open from 2 PM to 8 PM. Free dinner and refreshments will be provided. Attendees will also have access to a coworking space, Wi-Fi, and a live feed of the hearing.

The neighborhood impact by the development of The Avenir is substantial. The residential component includes over 2,000 new apartments, with 500 permanently affordable homes, primarily through the conversion of existing sites in Manhattan Community Board 4. Excess food from the Avenir’s hotel, restaurant, and food hall will be used to prepare meals for food-insecure residents in the neighborhood in a 10,000-square-foot facility for Rethink Food across from The Avenir. Neighborhood safety is also projected to increase with the addition of 300 security staff, a NYPD outpost, and upgraded street lighting.

Atlantic city is literally NOTHING like this for so many reasons … what they are proposing actually seems really cool and only a small portion of it is luxury casino. Recommend taking a look at the details

actually the western yards was the very best site as it would have gotten that section capped and completed. too bad they dropped out. anyhoo even times square is still better than this site because obviously. this site would get developed fairly soon regardless.

I would think just about everything you see here on YIMBY is an ad to some degree, after all it’s a business..but ad or not, the idea to recirculate extra hotel food back into the community thru “Rethink Food” is a good one, food for many people is becoming as prohibitively expensive as housing..

I think NYC is getting a casino whether we agree or not. Avenir looks like a nice development, my biggest concern would be if this is built, how will it impact the alternative development at Hudson Yards? Will that entire development be postponed or will it simply be developed without the casino? I’m more interested in that development being finished than this one if it has to be one or the other.
The proposed Wynn casino at Hudson Yards dropped out last spring.
HY is proceeding on developing the western yards without a casino.
Calm down, websites cost money to run and we don’t pay a thing for this one. YouTube is now more ads than content. As long as this doesn’t become a daily habit, keeping the lights on matters.
I agree. A lot of you people being outraged from seeing an ad are overreacting to something that doesn’t affect your lives. Find something else that’s more serious to get mad at, like the crumbling of American democracy because of POTUS

I prefer the Times Square location but this one offers more for the city.
Just mark it more clearly as paid content and go on. But I do think the project should pay for the subway stop at 42nd and 11th avenue on the 7 train. It was originally planned, but deleted to save money.

I ask, I keep hearing from people who lives nearby. Who the heck are these people? What would you build on this hole in the ground instead? Nothing?
Something will be built here. Would you have another residential tower? Ok, then, another 10 years will go by with nothingness there in hopes a different developer cones along.
This is it; the times now.
What else would go there to complete the west side? It’s got perfect regional traffic access (it’s between the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, 34th Street, and West Side Highway) and very good transit (7 train and Penn Station). Larry’s shown to build reputable and I’m all for this.
Yes, I know the person who Larry hired to paint murals on the fence around this empty site, I guess she’ll lose her job if this project gets chosen, but other than that, I think it will be a big positive for this slightly forlorn area.
Add that 7train stop at 41/10 as part of the deal.
The local Community board voted 4-2 against this project, the sane vote as the thumbs down it gave to the Times Square proposal. The TS 👎🏻 is most understandable. The Avenir is perfect for this empty eyesore on Manhattan’s west side. It has it all going for it in terms of transportation access. It’ll now sit empty for decades to come. 🙇🏻♂️
