Stantec Unveils Concept Design Renderings for Battery Coastal Resilience Project in Lower Manhattan

Stantec has released new concept design renderings of a $129 million initiative to better protect Battery Park from the rising sea levels, seasonal storm surges, and extreme precipitation. Known as the Battery Coastal Resilience Project, the investment will primarily fund reconstruction of deteriorating wharfs, enhancements to Battery Park’s existing network of public walkways, and infrastructure upgrades.

Architecture firm Gensler will again appear before the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission in defense of proposals to construct a rooftop addition at One Broadway in Battery Park, Manhattan. Following lukewarm feedback from the commission, new renderings reveal an overall reduction of mass including structural height, exterior cladding, and shape.

West Thames Street Pedestrian Bridge Finally Welded Into Place Atop West Street, in Battery Park City

The last week of May saw momentous progress on the construction of the West Thames Street pedestrian bridge. The steel structure was finally lifted and welded into place above West Street. The bridge is designed by WXY Architecture, which worked in conjunction with engineering consultant Weidlinger Associates. This span will replace the temporary Rector Street bridge just a short walk to the north and connect Battery Park City with the Financial District. Skanska is in charge of the active construction site. Funding and support for the project is being provided by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and the Battery Park City Authority.
