One of the last big development sites in central Crown Heights is a Rite Aid at 1040 St Johns Place, between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues. Now new building applications have been filed to erect a seven-story building on the big property, which is currently a Rite Aid.
Yaniv Shalom, president of Hillside Development, has filed applications for a four-story, two-unit residential townhouse at 1511 Pacific Street, in northern Crown Heights, three blocks south of the C train’s stop at Kingston Avenue. The building will measure 2,176 square feet and span just 16 feet across the vacant lot. One residence will occupy the bottom two floors while the second unit spans the top remaining space, with each unit averaging 1,088 square feet. Jamaica-based Banji Awosika Architect is the applicant of record.
One of the largest new residential projects filed in Crown Heights last year was 111 Montgomery Street, a 12-story apartment building planned for a lot next to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Developer PWR Holdings has put the site on the market, and YIMBY has a rendering for the building that could rise there.
Heritage Equity Partners and Rabsky Group’s big residential development is finally rising at 564 St. Johns Place, between Franklin and Classon Avenues in Crown Heights.
A Crown Heights landmark is still in danger of falling apart and a proposal to save it met with concern, but not approval, from the Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday. The landmark in question is the George B. and Susan Elkins House at 1375 Dean Street. The current owner wants to convert the single-family structure to a four-family home, add glass enclosures on the sides, add skylights, change the attic, excavate in the cellar to give a higher ceiling height, and put on a glassy rear addition. It was the glass enclosures that really didn’t sit well with the commissioners.
