Hudson Arts Building’s Foundations Progress at 220 Eleventh Avenue in West Chelsea, Manhattan

Foundation work is progressing for the Hudson Arts Building, a ten-story commercial structure at 220 Eleventh Avenue in West Chelsea. Designed by STUDIOS Architecture and developed by The Moinian Group, the 145-foot-tall project will yield office space with column-free floor plates ranging from 17,500 to 25,000 square feet, as well as retail space. 220 Eleventh LLC is the owner, AECOM Tishman is the general contractor, and JLL is the exclusive leasing agent for the property, which is located along Eleventh Avenue between West 25th Street and West 26th Streets.

President Biden Announces $292M Grant for the Hudson River Tunnel Gateway Project

The long-delayed Hudson River Tunnel, also known as the Gateway Project, will receive a $292 million grant from the federal government. President Joe Biden was joined by secretary of transportation Pete Buttigieg, New York governor Kathy Hochul, and New Jersey governor Phil Murphy to announce the grant in a ceremony held at the West Side Rail Yard in Manhattan.

YIMBY’s 2022 Q4 Report Shows a Surge of New Housing Filings with 13,030 Units Filed from October through December

The fourth-quarter numbers for New York City’s construction filings are in, and YIMBY is excited to report that the overall figures from October through December dramatically outpace those from the previous quarter. Although the total number of new building filings is slightly down, dipping from 768 in Q3 to 738 in Q4, the number of residential and hotel unit filings surged from 7,217 in Q3 to 13,030 in Q4. Similarly, the total filed-for floor area effectively doubled, rising from 10.6 million square feet in Q3 to 20.3 million square feet in Q4. In effect, not only has the size of the average filing become twice as large during the period, but it also increased in height from an average of 3.2 in Q3 to 4.1 in Q4. Exterior work is nearing completion on The Set, a 44-story residential skyscraper at 451 Tenth Avenue in Hudson Yards. Designed by Handel Architects and developed and built by Related Companies, the 587-foot-tall structure yields 270 rental units in studio to two-bedroom layouts, with optional full furnishing available. MAWD was the interior designer for the project, which is located at the corner of Tenth Avenue and West 35th Street.

The Spiral is Close to Wrapping Up Construction at 66 Hudson Boulevard in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

The eighth-tallest building on our year-end countdown is The Spiral, a 1,041-foot commercial supertall at 66 Hudson Boulevard in Hudson Yards. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 66-story skyscraper will yield 2.85 million square feet of office space. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor, Banker Steel provided the steel work, and Permasteelisa is the façade contractor for the nearly $3.7 billion project, which spans a full block between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues and West 34th and 35th Streets.
