SGA has revealed proposals for BioTech Tower, a 37-story life sciences skyscraper along Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards. The structure is planned to yield 650,000 square feet of research and development space, and will stand as the world’s tallest laboratory building.

Renderings show the skyscraper with a design reminiscent of Foster + Partners’ 425 Park Avenue, with three stacks of glass-clad volumes separated by tall atriums featuring landscaped outdoor terraces framed by diagrid bracing.

SGA’s proposal comes on the heels of the firm’s life sciences conversion of 95 Greene Street in Downtown Jersey City, an eight-story, 340,000-square-foot building formerly occupied by Merrill Lynch.

New York City is already home to over 5,000 life sciences companies and is emerging as a top market for life sciences talent. The city’s investment in this sector, including a planned giant campus in Kips Bay, positions it as a potential leader in this field.

  1. A specific address? Cross street?

    • The first rendering shows it between 37th and 38th Street on 11th Ave, although the second shot looks more like 450 11th Ave where the Aloft Hotel is currently being built.

  2. Where in Hudson Yards is this proposed building supposed to be located?

  3. 36th and 11th

  4. Build it !

  5. The more Life science industry in the city, the better, This is the future.

Not a bad design, but there will be a definite backside, so prepare yourself. Those tubular angled struts look cosmetic. The renderings are a bit cagey about the glazing. Will it be the ubiquitous and very tired Hudson Yards blue/silver reflective glass?

Wow! As the world’s tallest laboratory building, reflective glass must have to come: Thanks.

  8. If you go to the SGA website, you will see a larger rendering of the building clearly located between 37th and 38th St. on 11th Ave.

  9. What is the plan for climate change with all that glass? Will it require massive air conditioning?

  10. Get rid of those diagonals and just use the core for 100% of the lateral.

  11. How many feet tall is it?
