Norman Foster’s latest effort in New York is 50 UN Plaza, which is now climbing quickly. The Zeckendorfs are developing the project, and per DOB permits the tower will eventually rise a total of 40 stories and 520 feet. 50 UN Plaza will be Foster’s first residential building to be built in the United States, and it will be a futuristic addition to Manhattan’s East River skyline.
The eastern and western sides of 50 UN Plaza will be covered by columns of enormous bay windows. Views from eastward-facing units will be especially remarkable given the tower’s location on the East River, which will allow for unobstructed vistas. Also addressed as 823 First Avenue, the tower is immediately adjacent to the United Nations—a prime location for wealthy foreign buyers, though the building will only contain 79 units. Completion is slated for 2015.
Nice.
