The Peter Poon-designed hotel at 136 West 42nd Street continues its upwards climb, and is edging towards surpassing the neighboring Bush Tower. None of the facade has been installed, but the inevitably semi-adequate glass won’t matter all that much, as the building is invisible outside of the immediate block — and, after all, the location is 42nd Street.
Though the height will add minor prominence, 136 West 42nd Street will remain undistinguished barring an unexpectedly horrible and garish facade, which is probably not in the cards. The building will be occupied by a Hilton Garden Inn.
On the other side of Bush Tower, the new retail at 120 West 42nd looks appears to be readying for business. Once open, the stores will help enliven the adjacent plaza, which is currently somewhat of a dead zone.
