Permits have been filed and approved for a three-story addition to P.S. 131 Abigail Adams at 170-07 84th Avenue, in Jamaica Hills, Queens. The site is seven blocks away from the 169th Street subway station, serviced by the F trains. The NYC School Construction Authority will be responsible for the development.
The 63-foot tall structure will yield 71,950 square feet within. The new building will create classrooms, a library, storage space, offices, and a cafeteria. Most significant to the development will be the ground-floor gymnasium, replacing the outdoor recreation space on site.
Urbahn Architects will be responsible for the design.
Demolition permits for three temporary classroom units were filed in July 2017. With permits approved, construction is likely to start soon, with completion speculated between 2020 and 2021.
