Renown architect Norman Foster’s office skyscraper at 50 Hudson Yards is beginning to rise above street level. With 2.9 million square feet of floor space, it will be the largest commercial office building by square footage in the first phase of Hudson Yards, as well as the final structure in part one of Related Companies’ master plan. The site is bound by West 33rd Street, West 34th Street, Tenth Avenue, and Eleventh Avenue. The future 1,011-foot-tall tower sits across the street from 30 Hudson Yards, while construction on 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral by Bjarke Ingels Group is also underway to the north. Oxford Properties and Mitsui Fudosan are the other two developers for the Foster + Partners-designed project.

Recent photos show the massive, rectangular-shaped reinforced core beginning to ascend.

Assemblage of the steel floor and perimeter should start this summer, once the core gets a little higher up. The site is located directly to the east of the escalators that connect to the 7 train platform. Norman Foster’s project will extend the cluster of buildings in the Hudson Yards district to the north. The best vantage point to see the changing cityscape and the wide expanse of the Midtown skyline is from across the Hudson River, along the Weehawken waterfront.

50 Hudson Yards is expected to be completed around 2022.

  1. Please pardon my using of your space: epic vista finally filled to its fullest extent (Thank you David).

  2. Please pardon me for stinking up the place: Rendering, beautiful, Design, Word salad and mumbo jumbo. (You’re welcome David).

    Epic office construction scale,
50 Hudson Yards, 3 Hudson Blvd, 66 Hudson Blvd, 99 Hudson Blvd. All under construction now, and in “full steam”. 6 tower cranes in one place!!! Crane Up New York!!! Go Ahead and Make America Great Again!!!

    • Make America great again? Is it therefore not great now or at some previous time. To suggest that America has not been great at any time is surely treasonous!

Make America Great Again is a patriotic movement to make America is in top place, everywhere and on the level up that everyone afraid attacking it again like they did in Pearl Harbor in December 07,1941 and on 9/11/2001 Vicious attacks, MAGA is to make sure that Capitalism Free Opportunity will be dominate in our Economy and in Economy of Our Main Partners, as Well as principles of Free Democracy and Free Constitutional Republic, we must able to down any tyrants and any tyranies who want to destroy us within or ftom outside, we must Protect Our National Borders from any invasion and intruders, we must be ready military to response to any attack on our soil with full swings within 59 minutes or less, using all means nuclear or conventional weapons of our choice, not with balanced power, let’s our enemy be left puzzled that we can attack them with Minuteman 3 or just ordinary MOP in response of their vicious attack on our soil, this should left upon us and we must preserve the capabilities to destroy all major enemy cities into piles of smoking ruins, within either 60 minutes or next 24 hours, again it is our choice!!!
MAGA is assured for future generations of American Citizens that Their Citizens Rights will be preserved and as well as Heritage from Our Founding Fathers, including all our National Names, Monuments, Statues, our Cultural Heritage won’t be replaced with foreign anti-american ideas and views, and subculture, and only Citizens of United States and Naturalized Immigrants will have the Right of All Above, including Public Welfare, Social Securuty and Medicare Benefits!!!
Make America Great Again, because since age of Bushes and Clintons and Obama America lost it’s place in many competitions to China and military capabilities to China and Russia!!!
Sorry but now we are years behind of Being Great Again, and able to respond simultaneously attacks from China and Russia!!!
And China and Russia is staying our Main Adversaries well until 2050 at least.
We must assure that America will be regrowth their shrinking Middle Class of Workers and be able to protect the future for generations of American Working Families!!!
We care about United States of America First, we must built in America, Made in America, Developed in America, Became Energy Independent and keeps our military in top levels of our priorities!!!
We must beat tyrants and fascist everywhere if they threat to attack us, and yes, Socialism=Fascism, America Will Never Be Socialist, Never!!!
That’s what Make America Great Again, because we no longer being great during decades of falling presidents after Great Ronald Reagan Presidency, who able to crush down the Soviet Socialist Empire Of Evil!!!
P.S. don’t bother call it communist, this is a treason not to understand that Socialism is a Form of Fascism, while Communism is theory of Karl Marx is solely Utopian and only existed in time of history of past, like Campuchia, Central African Empire, If you read Der Kapital you will understand, that your beloved so called developed Socialism it was in Soviet Union Empire, China, Mongolia, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Chile before General Pinochet, who never was a fascist, but true democratic, form of Socialism were exist in Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy in 1930s,
That’s why Nazi Germany and Soviet Union were friends during 1930s.
I hope you understand that. That’s why Socialism is a Worst Evil, the work of Satan’s itself!!!

Are they going to be able to fill all of these glass boxes?

    • Major tenants already signed. These are not spec projects.

David in Bushwick is a troll, this projects already filled up, NYC have tons of well worn offices who are unattractive for new lease and lease renewals, so they are willing to relocate, and in order to keep this office jobs in NYC we must built such glassy projects in the sky, as taller as we can!!! We already lost Amazon 25-45,000 potential jobs for benefits stupidity of JVB and AOC and our Mayor socialist Utopian ideas!!!

  5. Norman Foster has designed many striking buildings. Why is this one so dull?

    • Howard Miller | June 18, 2019 at 8:05 pm | Reply

      Hear! Hear!

      Yep, agree 100%

Compared to his other buildings, this one’s a dud.

Maybe there’s some sort of curse afflicting Hudson Yards given how many incredibly ugly buildings are being built there – yet across town on Park Avenue is where the dynamic architecture party seems to be now!

  6. My main concern is whether sidewalks will be large enough to accommodate rush hour crowds. The most unpleasant aspect of walking around Midtown is that you have to constantly dodge and maneuver your way around if you want to walk at a reasonable speed. My concern is that pedestrians will have this same problem around Hudson Yards.

What about the complete dearth of mass transit what with just the crosstown 7 train, and bus service (M12) so infrequent, it’s practically useless?

      Just wondering.

Don’t worry, ever know that Penn Station is just in short walking distance??? And 6 Subway lines here too, plus 6 more one block on Sixth, sure you are out of townee, right???

  7. This looks like “cut and paste” architecture to me – if it can even really be called architecture. Sir Norman seems to be phoning in designs. Either that or maybe the office janitor did this one.

  8. A clumsy, clunky, featureless clod of nothing. No grace, no style, it’s an architectural dead zone.

  9. We have a lot of people with TDS. Get a grip girls!! 4 more huge years unless you like higher taxes
