A large amount of scaffolding has been set up over the brick and stone walls of 137 Varick Street in Hudson Square in preparation for the building’s demolition. The site is one of several structures that will be cleared to make way for The Walt Disney Company’s new headquarters, which will be addressed Four Hudson Square and reportedly consist of a pair of 19-story buildings. Skidmore Owings & Merrill is the designer of the project and Skanska is in charge of the on-site construction activity.
Recent photos show how much work has already been done to the façade of 137 Varick Street.
Disney purchased the site from Trinity Church Real Estate for $650 million, which comes with a potential 1.2 million square feet of newly built space under a 99-year agreement. Applications show that there will be retail space on the first floor and offices beginning on the third floor. ABC and WABC News, production space, and television studios for The View and Live With Kelly and Ryan are also set to be housed inside the property.
Hudson Square is undergoing a major transformation as Alphabet, Google’s parent company, also has plans to construct a brand new $1 billion campus there. An influx of residential buildings such as 111 Varick Street, 77 Charlton Street, 110 Charlton Street, and 100 Vandam Street are also vertically extending the neighborhood to new heights.
No word on has been released on when the site will complete its transformation, or when the new 19-story structures are set to begin and finish.

Only in New York ? hello David
This is a fine building. Unfortunate that it wasn’t built around or on top of rather than demolished.
Agreed. Glorious masonry!
My Team 809 Erector Masters did the installation of the
Scaffolding for Gramercy Grup USA .
We are so excited to see the new building
WAS a beautiful building, now tenants are subjected to loud trucks and drilling and bldg tremors from 530am till 8pm Mon – Saturday. Its now May 2020, middle of the coronavirus and still we cannot get any peace or sleep. Thanks Disney
