Almost all of the fenestration for the multi-story addition atop 100 Vandam Street is now complete and revealed from behind scaffolding in Hudson Square. Designed by COOKFOX and developed by Jeff Greene, the residential project involves the construction of 20 floors above a 132-year-old building that once operated as a coal power plant. The 300-foot-tall structure is located at the corner of Greenwich Street and Vandam Street.
100 Vandam Street
The first portion of 100 Vandam Street‘s expansion has emerged from behind the black construction netting that covers the 300-foot-tall building in Hudson Square. Designed by COOKFOX and developed by Jeff Greene, construction has topped out on the 25-story mixed-use project, which rises above the 132-year-old red brick walls of a former coal power plant.
Following almost a decade of development, Jeff Greene’s residential conversion of 100 Vandam Street in Hudson Square, Manhattan has officially topped out. Designed by COOKFOX Architects, the 330-foot building artfully repurposes a 131-year-old coal power plant as a partial podium for 19 stories of new construction above.
YIMBY went on a hard hat tour of 100 Vandam Street, where a 131-year-old coal power plant is being converted to a new residential structure that will rise above the existing load-bearing masonry podium. The site is located in the booming Hudson Square neighborhood at the corner of Vandam Street and Greenwich Street. The construction project, which is being designed by COOKFOX and developed by Jeff Greene, will bring the total height of the new 25-story building to 330 feet.
Back in January of 2015, YIMBY first reported on a proposal for a new development at 92-100 Vandam Street, in the “Hudson Square” neighborhood to the north of the Holland Tunnel. Since then, several major projects have begun construction in the vicinity, including 555-565 Broome Street. Now, YIMBY has confirmation that the original suspected design for 92-100 Vandam is indeed accurate, and is now moving forward through the planning process.
