Work has been moving along quickly on the glass and brick curtain wall of One Willoughby Square, aka 420 Albee Square, a 495-foot-tall office skyscraper in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by JEMB Realty, the 34-story reinforced concrete structure topped out last October and has since been rapidly enclosed in its blue-colored envelope. The project is the tallest new office building in Brooklyn and will yield 500,000 square feet of Class A office space. Gilbane Building Company is in charge of construction.
Over the past two months, a large number of glass panels have been installed between the glazed blue masonry that caps the ends of the floor slabs. The level of detail in the curtain wall is becoming increasingly evident, especially with sunlight reflecting off the glossy surfaces. Each level of windows features a set of three thin horizontal metal louvers in front of the glass, further emphasizing the lateral language of the ribbon windows. The blue bricks have reached the top of the edifice, and the glass will continue to go up as the months go by.
FXCollaborative will eventually occupy floors seven, eight, and nine of One Willoughby Square. The very top of the skyscraper will provide 18-foot-high ceilings and a private outdoor loggia with views of Downtown Brooklyn, the Manhattan skyline, the harbor, and more. The closest subways are the B, Q, and R trains at the DeKalb Avenue subway station; the 2 and 3 trains at the nearby Hoyt Street station; and the A, C, F, and R trains at Jay Street-MetroTech.
One Willoughby Square is slated to be finished within the fourth quarter of 2020.
