Demolition permits have been filed for a 1930’s two-story commercial building at 537 West 59th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The 7,560-square-foot lot is owned by Project Renewal, a non-profit that offers housing and services for the homeless.

Located on the north side of the street between Amsterdam and West End Avenues, the interior lot has 37 feet of street frontage. Most recently the two-story building was owned by media organization Manhattan Neighborhood Network which sold the property in late 2021 for $19.3 million.

New construction plans from Project Renewal call for a women’s shelter that will assist 200 women with housing and mental health services. The new building is expected to open in 2024. Project Renewal recently debuted Bedford Green House Phase I, a 2865 Creston Avenue in the Bronx’s Bedford Park neighborhood.

537 West 59th Street is closest to the 59th Street subway station, serviced by the A, B, C, D, and 1 trains.

Age Engineering LLC is listed as the applicant of record.
