Demolition is progressing at 22-09 Queens Plaza North, the site of a three-story industrial building in Long Island City, Queens. Developed by Criterion Group, which paid nearly $80 million for the site in 2019, the 65-foot-tall structure will yield 170,000 square feet of film studio and office space. The property occupies a full-block parcel bound by 41st Avenue to the northeast, 22nd Street to the northwest, 23rd Street to the southeast, and Queens Plaza North to the southwest. Construction was last estimated to cost $25.5 million.
Recent photos show the entire site blocked off by wraparound sidewalk fencing and scaffolding. The windows on the second and third stories have been removed between the warm-colored brick façade, and colorful graffiti and motifs are sprayed over various sections of the ground floor and central mechanical bulkhead. An information board posted along 22nd Street indicates demolition is planned to wrap up in November. NY CC Construction Corporation is the general contractor hired to tear down the old structure.
The following rendering of 22-09 Queens Plaza North from Criterion Group shows an aerial perspective of the rectangular-shaped superstructure, which is clad in a mix of red and white paneling with sections of floor-to-ceiling glass on the ground level. Four loading berths are positioned along the western elevation with large numbers next to tall retractable doors. The two floors above have a grid of wide rectangular windows with individual balconies.
The rendering states that 22-09 Queens Plaza North is slated for completion by 2023, a plausible projection given the modest scope of the structure.

These people are aware this is highrise central right? Why dudnt they partner with a res developer to buikd a mixed use tower or towers with the studios in the podium? This is a stupid waste of land.
Right now it’s a parking lot. Anything is an improvement. This project will be finished and operating in less than year. It is owned by the studio, they want to be up and running. A tower would take years and years.
Hello how can I get a lottery application by mail?
Nice to see film and TV studios moving back to New York.
what about that rounded angle to be preserved? Again, subtle aspects of aesthetics and architectural history, mood and atmosphere for a neighbourhood lose over mere economic interests. 🙂
