75 Dupont Street Readies for Excavation in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Greenpoint Central. Developed by Madison Realty Capital.

Excavation is set to begin at 75 Dupont Street, the site of an eight-story mixed-use building in GreenpointBrooklyn. Developed by Madison Realty Capital, the 400,000-square-foot structure will yield 471 homes with 143 designated for affordable housing, as well as 189 on-site parking spaces, and a potential grocery store. Omnibuild is the general contractor for the property, which was formerly addressed as 14 Clay Street and is bound by the confluence of Commercial and Clay Streets to the north, Dupont Street to the south, and Franklin Street to the west.

Demolition on the previous occupants of the plot has concluded since our last update in late August, and recent photos show an excavator sitting on site awaiting the start of work. The property is an assemblage of ten parcels between 2-36 Clay Street, 280 Franklin Street, and 49-93 Dupont Street, among which was the Harte & Company factory that was fully razed over the fall months. Groundbreaking could conceivably begin in the coming weeks.

The main rendering shows a distinctive contemporary design with numerous setbacks and sections of angled walls. The façade is composed of light-hued brick on the lower levels and darker masonry on the upper half, all framing an irregular grid of large windows. The setbacks are shown topped with outdoor terraces. A mechanical bulkhead and landscaped rooftop terrace will cap the structure.

The nearest subway is the G train at the Greenpoint Avenue station to the south. The East River waterfront is a short walk to the west across West Street.

An anticipated completed date of winter 2025 is posted on site.

A very well designed project. This area, with hundreds of new housing units, definitely could use a large grocery store. Hopefully this project won’t just be a small one.

  2. The amount of new units going up in Greenpoint is staggering. I wonder what a current tally would show.

  3. A wonderful design for the neighborhood and that grocery store would be of such significant help to the growing Greenpoint waterfront 👍
