Construction has made significant progress on The Metropolitan, a rising mixed-use complex in Springfield, New Jersey. Garden Communities, the developer of the complex, recently celebrated the completion of several construction milestones and is confident that pre-leasing will launch this summer.

Located on Milburn Avenue near Morris Turnpike and Interstate 78, the complex has replaced a Saks Fifth Avenue retail store and will eventually comprise 223 rental apartments, 47 townhomes, and 5,000 square feet of retail space. Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners is responsible for the design.

“The Metropolitan is establishing a new best-and-highest use for this legendary Millburn Avenue address and serving as a catalyst to restore vibrancy to its neighborhood,” said Scott Loventhal, managing director at Garden Communities. “The community’s impressive amenities, ultra-convenient location, and diverse product mix will establish a one-of-a-kind lifestyle that will appeal to every demographic of renter.”

The mix of rental units includes one and two-bedroom layouts, while the townhomes will offer two- and three-bedroom floor plans.

Residents at The Metropolitan will have access to a daytime concierge, a coffee bar, multiple lounges and gathering spaces, a fitness center, a heated pool, fire pits, and outdoor lounge spaces. The complex will also include a large parking garage with electric vehicle charging stations, package lockers, and resident storage.

Prospective tenants can expect the leasing portal to debut mid-2023.

  1. This project will certainly boost a moribund section of Millburn avenue. The travesty is the site sat vacant for over 30 years while the politicos failed to come up with a commonsense solution

    • Agree. That should never have happened. On the other hand, this is. Lot nicer than the supermarket that was originally proposed for this site. Glass half full.
