Handel Architects has unveiled renderings for The Cottage, a 28-story mixed-use tower at 29 Cottage Street in Journal Square, Jersey City. The structure is planned to yield 669 residential units as well as 44,551 square feet of office space and 3,823 square feet of retail space.

Renderings show the building rising from a three-story office podium clad in light-hued metal paneling framing large square windows. Above, the bulk of the tower along Cottage Street is composed of a broadly pleated glass curtain wall that will create a bay window effect, maximizing residents’ views of the Manhattan skyline. The section of the tower facing the Homestead Place Extension is enclosed in a more conventional envelope incorporating white and black metal paneling and floor-to-ceiling windows. This section is designed to host shops or restaurants at ground level.

Amenities at The Cottage include two roof decks with a bar, a lawn area, an outdoor movie screen, a sun deck, and a pool. The development will also offer 350 bike parking spaces.

Handel Architects is playing a multifaceted role in the project, encompassing the design, architecture, and interior design, ensuring a unified and coherent vision throughout the building.

While the project has not yet broken ground, there appear to be preparatory steps occurring on the lot of where the building will eventually stand.

  1. Glass walls, PTACs, and Jersey City – name a more iconic trio.

  2. Really like the way the building has two completely different curtain walls, as if there are two buildings joined together. Can’t wait to see how all these new buildings in Journal Square come together… Like a mini LIC.

Sorry LIC, Jersey City is just beating you for completely dull and boring new architecture. The cul de sac kids will love it.

Good looking structure for the right location.
It adds beauty to the neighborhood. I’m a cu de sac kid.
