4778 Broadway’s Façade Progresses in Inwood, Manhattan

Exterior work is progressing on 4778 Broadway, a 12-story mixed-use building in Inwood, Manhattan. Designed by Aufgang Architects and developed by Maddd Equities, which purchased the property for $12 million in 2018, the 99,000-square-foot structure will yield 80 affordable housing units and 18,759 square feet of commercial space on the lower levels. M4778 Broadway LLC is listed as the owner and GDI Construction is the general contractor for the project, which rises from a 12,000-square-foot interior parcel by the corner of Broadway and Dyckman Street.

Recent photographs show all of the windows in place on the main Broadway elevation, where crews are in the process of installing the grid of chamfered façade panels. The other elevations are largely complete with traditional fenestrations surrounded by beige and brown EIFS paneling. The walls around the upper setback have been painted pale yellow and metal supports are in place for the final façade elements. The ground floor remains obscured behind the sidewalk shed.

A list of residential amenities and set of finalized renderings have yet to be revealed.

Work is being constructed directly next to The Eliza, another all-affordable mixed-use development at 4790 Broadway.

Only one finalized rendering was posted on the sidewalk fencing, showing a mix of light- and dark-colored metal panels framing the grid of windows across the height of the building.

The nearest subway from the property is the A train at the Dyckman Street station to the west.

4778 Broadway’s anticipated completion date is slated for October, as noted on site.

    Excellent project(s)!
We need hundreds more buildings like these. Lots of developable land exists for it.

  3. Why do all the new affordable buildings look like garbage?

I see good progress and many features on the building, that it creates a beautiful balance of the façade: Thanks.

  5. Will it be really affordable.

  6. Good use of the former car wash lot. While the upzoning of this block was quite an ugly affair (illegal spot zoning of the library to benefit a specific developer, then wrapped into the unrelated Inwood Rezoning to legalize it, which meant also upzoning the adjacent car wash lot, which became this building) the end result is turning out just fine.

  7. Beautiful Building
