A new early childhood education center focused on inclusivity is set to open within Public School 6 this fall at 43 Snyder Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Announced on Wednesday by Mayor Eric Adams and NYC Public Schools Chancellor Melissa Avilés-Ramos, the new center will serve students from 3-K through second grade in both general and special education, including children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Its opening marks the launch of Central Brooklyn’s first AIMS (Acquisition, Integrated Services, Meaningful Communication, and Social Skills) program, and is the first special education annex in School District 17.
The annex will debut in the 2025–2026 school year with general education 3-K, a mixed general and special education pre-K class, and a kindergarten AIMS class. Over the next two years, the program will expand to include first and second grade AIMS classrooms, establishing a full early childhood continuum by 2027–2028. The new facility, a purpose-built structure designed to meet the needs of its student population, will provide a variety of learning environments, including self-contained special education classes, integrated co-teaching classrooms, and specialized AIMS settings. Educators trained in supporting children with autism and developmental differences will lead each class.
In total, the annex will add 55 new seats to District 17 by the 2027–2028 academic year: 15 in general education 3-K, 22 in pre-K special education (across integrated and specialized classes), and 18 in K–2 AIMS classrooms.
Transit nearby the new P.S. 6 campus will include the Church Avenue and Parkside Avenue subway stations, both served by the B and Q trains.

This is an amazing initiative and project! As an early childhood final year student of the University of Lagos, Nigeria, I am so particular about the needs of special needs children and what the society can offer them in terms of education.
It would be great if I could be a part of this great community giving out my expertise when it comes to teaching children.
