A new 100-percent affordable housing building designed by Dattner Architects recently broke ground in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. Located at 50 Pennsylvania Avenue, the 94-foot-tall structure includes 218 apartments, amenity spaces, and ground floor retail. A portion of the residences will be set aside for the formerly homeless and “frail elderly households.”
In total, the nine-story building contains approximately 11,400 square feet, with 156,540 square feet dedicated to residential use and 22,260 square feet for the commercial space, including a grocery store at the corner of the property.
Amenities are positioned on the second floor and include recreational, fitness, and laundry facilities, as well as storage space for 109 bicycles and parking for 15 vehicles.

With regard to sustainability, the building includes photovoltaic panels, landscaping on the roof, and insulation to improve energy efficiency and temperature maintenance. The façade of the structure is comprised primarily of red brick and glass elements.
The development team includes Pennrose and RiseBoro Community Partnership, which celebrated the milestone event on October 1.
