Exterior work is moving along at Beckford Tower and Beckford House, a pair of residential buildings in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Workers are installing the final sections of Brynne Brownstone and Indiana Limestone on Beckford House, located at 301 East 81st Street, also addressed as 1562 Second Avenue, and Beckford Tower at 301 East 80th Street. The project is designed by Studio Sofield and SLCE Architects and is being developed by Icon Realty Management. CM & Associates is in charge of construction management.
Photos show the progress of the stone façade installation. The main sections awaiting completion are the areas around the exterior hoists, the ground level of both structures, and the podium and upper crown of Beckford Tower. The development is a fitting addition to the neighborhood with its classic, genteel styling, multi-tiered crowns, and detailed cornices, metal railings, windows, and ventilation coverings.
The 19-story Beckford House stands 215 feet tall and will contain 32 condominiums ranging from two- to five-bedrooms homes, as well as retail space on the ground-floor and cellar levels. Amenities will include a swimming pool, a basketball court, a fitness and yoga center, several communal lounges, a children’s playroom, a shared rooftop terrace on the 22nd floor with an outdoor kitchen, a laundry room, a bike storage room, a mail and package room, and additional residential storage. There will be three units per floor on floors two through five, two per floor from the sixth to 12th story, full-floor homes from the 13th to 17th story, and a duplex penthouse on the 18th and 19th stories.
Beckford Tower stands 29 stories high and will contain 72 units ranging from one- to six-bedroom residences. Five units are housed on each floor from the second through sixth floors, and the rest of the structure will have three or fewer on each level. Amenities include an indoor swimming pool, a piano bar, a double-height half basketball court, a fitness center and 3,000-square-foot yoga studio, a party room, a game room, a children’s playroom, a laundry room, a bicycle storage room, residential storage, a mail and package room, and concierge service.
Beckford House and Tower should be completed sometime next year.

Historical revivalism is rarely ever done well. Robert Stern is a rare example of how to do it masterfully.
These two buildings are remarkably well detailed and many people will think that they are around 100 years old. The quality of the materials can only indicate that the current fashion for cheap glass boxes represents nothing but pure developer greed.
Very nice. Compare this to Feb 2nd’s 150 E 78th. Well, maybe don’t, because there’s no comparison.
How much mail, how many people, will get Beckford House and Tower mixed up 🙂
Still lacks the flare, proportion and detailing of its pre-war predecessors. I want it so badly to work, but there’s always something off.
Love the facade shots…. beautiful new construction
One of the best residential tower facades in a long time.
